This is a piece created for Cris Cancer’s 10 years anniversary: “portrait of a natural killer”, the NK cell.
It is composed of 10 layers of gold papers, celebrating the 10 past years of research, and 10 white layers for the forthcoming 10 years to hopefully find the final cure.
Natural killer cells are effector lymphocytes of the immune system that control several types of tumors and microbial infections by limiting their spread and subsequent tissue damage.
They kill cancer cells by secreting perforins and granzymes. Upon contact with cancer cells, NK cells form immune synapses to deliver the lethal hit.
